I had so much fun on Friday at the Mommie Series Holiday Market and bonus: I got most of my mom Jackie’s presents for this HannaQuanzaEdiMas – ok, we’re Jewish, but we have a tree and exchange gifts on Christmas so I’m keeping it real. In any event, there were several fabulous local artisans and other entrepreneurs there so let me tell you about them and their fabulous creations!
Let’s start with the beautiful Misti Pace Krahl, founder of The Mommie Series and a previous guest on the Closet Reboot YouTube channel (see Wardrobe Planning Hits and Misses Volume 1 – Week 7). Misti is always lovely and yesterday I thought her makeup applied by Katie Lynn looked especially fabulous. Katie Lynn has her own cosmetic line we will be discussing in a makeup video very soon so hoping to have her work her magic on me as well!
The first table I visited was occupied by local jewelry designer Jessie Dugan. Jessie may be working out of Houston these days, but she trained with both Tory Burch and Henri Bendel during her time in New York. While her jewelry has a refined sophisticated look reflecting her time in New York, I loved that she has named her design after local Houston streets. From her Bellaire bar earrings and Bagby bangles to her permanent collection “59 cuff” and “Sul Ross” ring as well as her “713” charm, her collection would make any Houstonian proud! That 713 charm is so going on my wish list!
Next I chatted with jewelry and accessory designer Mallory Et Cie. Mallory is American, but also a hardcore Francophile. Her designs come to life right here in Texas, but they are inspired by her time in Paris. Mallory has created some beautiful jewelry from all sorts of antique items, but among my favorites were the coin pieces. If you have a coin you would like to use in jewelry she may be able to accommodate you if it will fit in one of her current designs. She also makes these lovely ponchos from fabric weaved as many as fifty years ago in Africa. I loved the vertical lines on the sample Mallory was modeling yesterday on the far left in this picture.
Next I chatted with Christen Meyers who is an independent representative for Perfectly Posh. On display in her booth were bath balms, hand lotions, and other products all manufactured with natural ingredients found right here in the United States. She also featured some really yummy looking holiday mug gift bags! I was so excited about the scents available from Perfectly Posh including a Bellini scented bath bomb and blackberry and Jasmine hand creme. I love jasmine, but it seems to get neglected these days in the natural botanical list so I had to snag some of the Social Butterfly hand creme!
Next up were the L-cubed girls – that’s my nickname actually. Lori, Laura, and Louisa shared a booth displaying Laura’s jewelry creations and lovely bespoke Flora + Mia apparel designed by Lori and Louisa. I’m still kicking myself for not getting any pictures at their booth, but never fear, I plan to record a video with all three ladies so we will definitely get to see more of their fabulous designs. Laura Jorn’s jewelry making career began in Midland, Texas, but us lucky Houstonians can now claim her as one of our own. You won’t find a Flora + Mia shop in Houston, but you will enjoy the experience of private shopping and consultation with Lori and Louisa in their home where they help clients find just the right look for their own personal style. More the come…
Next I had the pleasure of chatting with this lovely Texas couple Paul and Jill Battles about their Spindletop monthly subscription box. Each month, Paul and Jill put together a box with products made right here in the state of Texas. Items are often seasonably appropriate such as the engraved state of Texas shaped wooden ornament I’ll get in the December box that I ordered online. I love that all their products come from our great state and that they reflect the character of my fellow Texans. What a wonderful gift to give to out of state visitors or to send to gracious hosts after travels abroad – love the concept and loved the items from bluebonnet soap to Texas toffee (to die for by the way). And just in time for the “Y’allidays” (see website – I so love Texas humor!)
Check out these lovely women of Cacao which is a lovely shop filled with fashion, jewelry, and other fabulous gifts. In addition to the beautiful jewelry on display were some fabulous travel cases for toiletries, makeup, jewelry, nail kits, sewing kits – you name it! They also had a lovely selection of essential oils and gave me a quick tutorial on which oils to use for what e.g. floral scents are relaxing while citrus scents energize – makes sense when you think about it! I snagged a couple of gifts off my holiday shopping list and will definitely be visiting their shop here in Houston at 4340 Westheimer for for more!
My eye couldn’t help but catch the next booth which was more like a museum exhibit with lovely English inspired antique jewelry by Suzy Smith. Suzy spent some time in London selling antiques which lead to her lovely Victorian inspired jewelry creations. I loved everything about her collection from the beautiful black crowned silhouette displaying them to the peal and orchid colors. Despite the antique origins of many of the components making up these pieces, the design had a great modern and relevant feel that would look great with any Winter 2018 runway ensemble! You’ll need to reach out to Suzy for these unique pieces since she does not have a store front, but don’t let the website name concern you – Suzy can be found right here in Houston, TX.
I was delighted to run into my friend from last year’s Mommie Series Holiday market Chloe Di Leo only this time she was demonstrating a very different product! If you watch my YouTube wardrobe planning videos, you know that I adore my Chloe Di Leo blush pink leather and rose gold bracelet. But girlfriend has created a completely different enterprise with these yummy Mixologi drink bombs! That’s right – cocktails as in mixed drinks! There are some great flavors and even a “hangover cure” bomb which Chloe also recommended for daily detox first thing i the morning – with my migraines I especially excited about that one! This felt like the perfect hostess gift for holiday parties!
Unfortunately I missed a couple of the booths, but I highly recommend checking out the ones I did check out! I’ve included links with each of the descriptions above including the pictures. If you live in Houston and haven’t been to a Mommie Series event – definitely check one out. If you live in San Antonio – the Mommie Series is coming to your city as well! For everyone else, these great vendors all had websites or Facebook pages – the miracle of modern technology!
XOXO,
Misty Ann
