Wardrobe Planning Hits and Misses Volume 1 Week 15

Now that the last week of August is behind us, I’m finding myself in that strange place that many of us warm climate women face this time of year.  We’re so ready for Fall fashion, but mother nature just isn’t there with us.  And as if the heat wasn’t enough, we’ve been having all kinds of rain to kick off September here in Houston – I’m pretty sure I ruined my suede booties in the rain this morning.  But much more importantly, with Florence and Issac in the wings as I type this post, everyone here in Houston is experiencing Harvey PTSD.  I’m not sure I realized just how much it impacted our kids until today.  Weather blues is a very real thing (see Seasonal Affective Disorder and Rainy with a Chance of Depression) so having some cheerful (but weather appropriate) outfits planned for the week is one small thing to help brighten an otherwise dreary outlook.

OK, enough of all that, let’s talk about last File Sep 04, 6 10 45 PMweek.  My friend, neighbor, fabulous fashionista and founder of Jenetiqa Skincare Christiane Waldron helped me pick out some outfits to kick off this tricky tween seasonal period (click on the picture above to watch the video).  Christiane started off the week with these Banana Republic gray floral pants which I love and was excited to wear again.  We paired them with a simple white t-shirt, my Brooks Brothers black sweater/jacket and the fabulous Legacy necklace from Premier Designs that Angela Britt picked out for me (see Weekly Wardrobe Planning Hits & and Misses Volume 1 Week 12).  This was a comfortable, but elegant outfit and the fabric really did feel like Fall without melting me on the walk through the parking garage.  We rounded out the outfit with my black Mister Abrasivito black pumps by Tamara Mellon (a favorite of both mine and Christiane’s).

File Sep 07, 10 19 16 PMOn Wednesday, I got to wear my Striped Ascot Tie Blouse by Cloe from my Rent the Runway Unlimited shipment.  Christiane paired it with black pencil pants and this flowy burgundy cardigan both from White House Black Market.  But our favorite part of the outfit was my Dolly by Steve Madden shoes which almost pass for booties when worn with pants.  This was their second outing and they were even more comfortable this time.  These shoes come in a few other colors as well as a mule version – I may have to consider the red ones!  I loved the way the blouse flowed, but it was just a little snug in the chest area although a size up would have been too big at the top of my shoulders.  And, as you can see in the picture, the tie came undone by the time I made it to the BoyarMiller Women Who Lead Commercial Real Estate happy hour.  This is always a great networking event filled with highly successful seasoned to up and coming women – all very supportive and super stylish!

For my last work day of the week, Christiane File Sep 07, 10 29 36 PMreally wanted to use my black, red and white floral skirt from White House Black Market.  I’ve had this skirt for several seasons, but it still feels current.  Christiane paired it with my black three quarter sleeve knit top because my girl is all about the black on black.  She also reached for my black suede booties which I was excited to whip out for the first time this season.  I know suede is in any season now, but these just felt too heavy for the summer.  We forgot to pick out a jacket, but thanks to Jodi Skorupski’s shopping list, I had my white Vince Camuto blazer which worked perfectly with the outfit and still kept the season since apparently white is in this Fall.  We finished off the look with jewelry from Kendra Scott – the color wasn’t perfect, but I loved the way the gold chain popped on my black top.

Since I work a 980 schedule, Friday was my day off so I got to record my video for this week with Natalie Weakly of Signature Style (click on the picture at the bottom of this post to watch the video).  On Saturday, I traveled to Choctaw, Oklahoma with Jackie (my mom) to visit my Uncle Jack and got the added benefit of seeing my Uncle Wade and his wife as well as several of my cousins, their children and our dear family friend Joyce.  What a lovely trip – it was so nice seeing everyone and catching up after a very long time!  Christiane put me in these comfortable jeans from Banana Republic along with a black top from Boston Proper and my Lucchese cowboy boots for my travel clothes.  We had also picked a dress for dinner, but we ended up making an early day of it at the casino so I just stuck with my comfy clothes.  For the Sunday trip home, I threw on my gray Gap t-shirt and an Astros championship hoodie – in any other town I might have felt concerned about a rival city team statement, but Okalahomans are so incredibly nice and gracious!  Shout out to Kia Motors and Enterprise Rent a Car for amazing quality and service!

Christiane did a great job and be on the look out for her Fall skincare routine videos which I’ll start posting this week.  In the meantime, check out the latest wardrobe planning video for this week by clicking on the picture below and let me know in a comment what you thought of last weeks Fall transition outfits.
