Wardrobe Planning Hits and Misses Volume 1 Week 4

Weekly wardrobe planning last week with Leela Madan was so fun!  Leela has a more casual style and loves color so she brought a different perspective and following the Instagram #FashionLoveJune guidelines for the week was a fun challenge.  So here’s how we did…

MondayMonday  was “patterns, textures, prints” day on the #FashionLoveJune challenge.  This is the Joseph Ribkoff dress that I picked up in Montreal at Le Vaisseau Dor.  I thought it might be slightly dressy for My current client office, but we added the pink blazer from Banana Republic for a pop of color and to give the dress a more professional look.  I also went with my go to pink patent leather shoes and some small pink pearls to tie it all together.  I love this dress.  It was so comfortable and the black side panels coupled with the black waist are super flattering!  I also had a question on the Closet Reboot Instagram page regarding whether or not this dress would be appropriate for a wedding.  It used to be a big no-no to wear black to a wedding, but those days are long gone.  Plus I think the pearls and sprinkle of white give this dress a bridal feel.  I’d say thumbs up on wearing it to a wedding – thoughts?

Tuesday was “shoe love is true love” day on the #FashionLoveJune challenge so we putTuesday together an outfit around my Black and White plaid Coach wedges.  I bought these shoes because I wear a lot of black and white and I was tired of wearing black pumps all the time.  But now I struggle to find other things to wear with them besides just black and white.  Leela was determined to add color to my outfits every day – usually pink.  I normally would have worn a white blouse under this Ann Taylor dress to match the shoes, but with the pink blouse and a white, black and pink scarf from White House Black Market, the outfit worked.  By the way, I’ve had this dress for close to 20 years. It’s seen me through funerals, interviews, happy hours and many many work days.  And, it’s one of those dresses that looks good whether I’m a size 2 or a size 8.  I doubt I’ll ever get rid of it.

WednesdayWednesday was work from home day as well as “Color Choice” day for the #FashionLoveJune challenge followed by my monthly CODE meeting.  CODE is a pier group I’ve been part of going on 7 years now which happens to be where I met Leela.  We met at our fellow Codie Thais Amaral Tellawi‘s office for our meeting this month and of course everyone knew what I would be wearing from this week’s video.  I have to admit I’m loving this pink t-shirt which was a freebie from Blue Host at the Mom 2.0 Summit.  “I’m a Mom.  I’m a boss.  I’m a blogger” – I love being the first and third for sure!  I was very comfy in this outfit that Leela picked for me even if it didn’t include the ripped jeans she really wanted.  Jeans are actually a hole in my wardrobe.  Not only do I not have ripped jeans, I don’t really have the bread and butter favorite pair of ankle length jeans that should be a staple in my wardrobe.  Frankly, Houston is so hot that I don’t miss them much in the summer and I have my white jeans anyway.  But I really do need to get a pair of go to blue jeans for the winter.

Thursday I forgot to take a picture of my outfit and it is still at the cleaners so, whoops!  I’ll post a picture when I get everything back from the cleaners on next week’s Consequences article.  I can say it was very comfortable and I did think the necklace hit my sweater collar line in the right place which I was worried about.

I’ll make up for Thursday with Friday where I changed clothes 3 times.  For the Friday#FashionLoveJune challenge, Friday was “Fashion love” day.  We interpreted “fashion love” with this pink double ruffle dress by Slate and Willow.  Leela helped me untangle a long strand of faux pearls I got from my grandmother to wear with the dress.  It is a nice dress, but not super forgiving – it required some shape-wear to make it work.  None the less, it worked great for the Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Texas League City high school graduation.  I was so proud of these kids to whom a high school diploma has completely different meaning than your average child.  Next, I changed into my favorite comfy shorts and top while hanging out in Galveston with my Russian sister-in-law and her pals and then into this blue tie die maxi dress for dinner at the Fisherman’s Wharf where we heard some awesome ghost stories from our waitress.

SaturdaySaturday we had breakfast at The Mosquito Cafe in Galveston which has an awesome brunch on Saturdays and Sundays!  If you go there – check out the apple pecan salad as a side for sure.  I had the crustless quiche which is wonderful, but its hard to miss with anything on their menu.  And, my dress made it all the way through to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Houston Patagonia Grill and Cafe.  Patagonia has a delectable Argentinian-Italian fusion menu with an amazing wine list created by owner and chef Sebastian Abraham.  Sebastian is a total sweetheart who takes great care of his guests and has been a huge supporter of local non-profits like Devereux.  Try the asparagus soup or the steak that come from one of those Texas ranches that produce fabulous beef.  I have to admit though, this picture is actually from my last breakfast in Montreal – this is the Semi Couture Layered Maxi dress from Bytimo that was part of my last RTR Unlimited shipment.  This dress was so comfortable, even in the heat of a Galveston summer.  I’m really going to miss it and would definitely consider renting again!  This last RTR Unlimited shipment was totally a winner!

So this is my report out on last week.  For more wardrobe planning, check out this week’s video with my sweet sister-in-law Lena Antropyanskya and her students Lana B Hibbler and Dora Shalina.  We had so much fun pairing outfits with the lovely jewelry they have brought me over the years from Russia.  In the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how I can improve on these outfits or let me know if you have any questions about the RTR Unlimited plan and have a great week!
