Wardrobe Planning Hits and Misses Volume 1 Week 1

Ever since the Mom 2.0 Summit, I’ve been thinking I wanted to start a weekly video for Style Success Podcast CRR Sealwardrobe planning.  Stylist Malory Sills first educated me on the concept of Sunday night wardrobe planning on her Style Success Podcast and I have to say, it’s been a game changer.  Investing a little time on a low pressure Sunday night to plan my wardrobe for the high pressure work week makes my week day mornings much less stressful and provides a fun Sunday night ritual.

So, as of this Sunday, I’d like to share that experience with you on the Closet Reboot YouTube channel.  In the mean time, I did post about last Sunday’s planning session on Instagram so I thought I’d blog about the experience and how its shaking out this week.

Collage Part 1As I said on Instagram, I’m not gonna lie – wardrobe planning last Sunday was a challenge.  I had a prospective new client meeting on Monday, so I put my black suit up on my rack and there were some white marks on the collar.  Tulle RecommendedNot to worry, Sara Lee (my maternal grandmother) taught me a great trick for dealing with “stuff” that makes its way onto my clothes: tulle.  Whenever Sara Lee noticed some dust, powder, or even a little errant food on your clothes, she’d whip out her trusty square of tulle and brush it lightly against the offending particles to dust them off your clothes.  Amazing how well this works!  For my black suit, it worked perfectly, but for my khaki pants, not so much – those had to go to the dry cleaners.

My next pick for Tuesday was a floral dress – apparently floral is hot this summer (no pun intended).  But then I realized, my Rent the Runway (RTR) Unlimited return package might not make it back in time to receive the next shipment for a graduation dinner party on Saturday.  So, the floral dress had to be reserved for Saturday instead.  No khaki pants, no floral dress – what to wear on Tuesday?  I decided to stick with a skirt theme so after perusing my skirt rack, I opted for my patterned taupe skirt from Anne Taylor Loft.  I like color on color and pattern on pattern so I decided to pair the patterned skirt with a patterned scarf and since it had a bit of a sheen, I went with my rose gold metallic pumps to draw out the shine.

Wednesday morning I had a prospective client breakfast meeting, but I didn’t plan to visit a client site so something slightly more casual was in order.  I decided to go with my new favorite pants (made with pink super comfortable cotton blend fabric from White House Black Market) paired with a blue patterned cardigan.  Yes, we’re already hitting highs in the 90s (Fahrenheit) in Houston, but indoors you’ll often find low 70s to high 60s so a cardigan is a must.

Collage Part 2

Thursday I was back at my client site so I went with an old faithful pair of black and white patterned pants paired with a light pink t-shirt, a black cardigan, my favorite pink patent leather pumps, and a pretty light scarf I picked up from Black House White Market earlier this month before the Mom 2 Summit.

Today I don’t have any client meetings lined up, but I’ll likely pop out for lunch with my sons or a friend, so I wanted to have an outfit ready for last minute plans.  Lately I’ve been grabbing my white jeans for day time casual, but the tunic I wanted to pair had some strange white marks all over the front so I had to switch out for this one – one of those times I’m glad I planned in advance.  I’m also loving these black lace cork wedged heal sandals for summer – they are really high though so not sure how much longer my 50+ spine will tolerate them.

Tomorrow I’ll be attending another round of graduation events (my oldest son graduated last weekend) for children of friends and family and I totally messed up on my RTR Unlimited return shipment so the floral dress it is – glad I set it aside!  I got these Michael Kors tangerine sandals a few seasons ago, but I still love them and of course I acquired a J Crew cardigan to compliment them.

So far this week has gone off without a wardrobe hitch thanks to advanced planning so I’m thinking I’ll be sticking with this Sunday wardrobe routine.  One concern I do have moving forward is that my outfits will get stale.  After reviewing a few previous wardrobe planning pictures it does seem like I’m in a bit of a fashion rut.  So, I’ve got some ideas on how to combat that rut that I’ll discuss in my next video which if all goes according to plan, will go live this Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 8 pm.

This week its just going to be me in the video, but some very cool people have Sunday Night Wardrobe Planning Graphicvolunteered to appear in future wardrobe planning videos which should be a lot of fun and add some fresh perspective.  Yes, some of the stylists I interviewed last summer will also be making appearances!  We may even do a live one if there is enough interest so more people can participate.  If you need some inspiration for your own Sunday wardrobe planning, please check it out on the Closet Reboot YouTube channel and in the meantime, leave me a comment to let me know what you think about this week’s picks.
