To facilitate brainstorming for the Closet Reboot blog and YouTube channel, I’ve gotten in the habit of listening to inspirational podcasts particularly when I exercise. My cousin Warner Boin recently recommended my new favorite – “How I Built This” with Guy Raz. This pod cast showcases successful entrepreneurs who tell their stories and share some great wisdom.
I’ve heard great stories and gotten ideas from every episode of How I Built This, but I was particularly excited by how many of the podcasts featured beauty and apparel brands. It occurred to me that some of you might find those interesting as well so, listed below are links to beauty/fashion related episodes (click on the interviewee names for episode links and their company names for links to their company websites) – enjoy!
Great concept and very interesting story! Note – stylist Jodi Skorupski mentioned Stitch Fix as a potential solution for recovering your closet after a disaster in both her guest post here on the Closet Reboot blog and in her video on the Closet Reboot YouTube channel.
Dave Gilboa & Neil Blumenthal / Warby Parker
A colleague of mine tried their 5 frame offer last year and we really enjoyed helping her make selections! I admit, I haven’t listened to this episode yet, but I need new glasses so it is definitely on my play list.
Marcia Kilgore / Bliss, Soap & Glory, FitFlop, Soaper Duper, & Beauty Pie
Love me some Bliss hand and foot lotion me! I’ve used a pair of Bliss gloves for years – probably time to replace those. I’m not familiar with her other brands since they launched in the UK, but perhaps some of my UK blogger buddies could chime in with a comment about them?
This was such a great story and I can’t wait to try out some of her outfits. Love the concept behind her basic pieces and just keeping it simple. I’ve always loved that look!
I’ve been a fan for years of RTR and their recent interaction with Closet Reboot on Twitter has strengthened my love for this company even more. I’ll be blogging soon about my experience joining the RTRUnlimited plan starting with 4 black tie dresses I rented to choose from for an upcoming wedding.
Kate & Andy Spade / Kate Spade
I’ll never forget my pal Cindy showing me her first Kate Spade bag – I was so impressed! Kate sold her remaining shares of the iconic business she created in 2006, but what a wonderful brand! Great story and talk about some fabulous pieces!
Guy interviewed Sara for the very first episode – very cool! It’s a great interview and a wonderful story of how Sara solved a problem many of us had been struggling with for years – how do I wear those gorgeous cream pants without showing undergarment lines?
I was so excited when I opened a Christmas gift from my boyfriend 3 years ago and discovered Kendra Scott boxes under the wrapping paper! And Kendra is really amazing when it comes to making a difference in the community as part of the Kendra Gives Back initiative – I was thrilled when she agreed to be the honoree at a fundraising gala last year for one of my favorite non profits Devereux Behavioral Health.
My absolute go to for online shoe shopping – it is so fun to see a Zappos package sitting at your front door! The selection is fabulous and the customer service amazing! Haven’t heard this podcast yet, but its next on my list!
There are some other episodes in my queue like Alli Webb of Drybar and Blake Mycoskie of Toms plus I’m sure I’ve missed a few in my review of back episodes and certainly more will be forthcoming so I’ll try to catch those in subsequent posts. In the meantime, please check these out and let me know what you think!
